Ymagine is the name of the energy-efficient, eco-friendly sheet metal.

Ymagine is a hot-rolled steel sheet with cold-rolled properties that can in many cases replace cold-rolled sheet, thanks, among other things, to the fine thickness tolerances.

Tata Steel has a hot strip mill in IJmuiden, Netherlands, that produces hot-rolled steel in a completely new way. The hot strip mill goes by the name of DSP – Direct Sheet Plant, and the material produced has been given the name Ymagine.

The major advantage of the process, unlike traditional hot-rolling production, is that the steel is produced from the molten steel to a finished coil in a single continuous flow, without the need to reheat the steel at any stage of the process.

The major benefit is that considerably less energy is consumed in production in the DSP line than in a traditional hot-rolling line. Another advantage of the DSP line is that the thickness tolerances are very tight. The tolerance is even tighter than what the mill can deliver from their cold-rolling sections.

Ymagine has many advantages thanks to the uniformity and stability of the material and can be used to advantage in many manufacturing areas, e.g. roll forming.

Ymagine can in many cases replace cold-rolled. But also hot-rolled where you can take advantage of the tight thickness tolerance and good formability for more stable production with fewer issues.

Ymagine® is produced in thicknesses between 1.15 – 4.0 mm.
